Day 3 at Chobe Safari Lodge, Kasane

Day Trip to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

We decide to treat ourselves to Breakfast at the Lodge before we were collected by the Tour Operators to go on our excursion to Vic Falls in Zimbabwe. The Tour operators have operations on either side of the border and they are quick to assist South African’s to get through border control on either side i.e. Botswana and Zimbabwe. At the Zimbabwean side we meet up with a fellow tour operator that will take us to the falls and return us to the Botswana Border post on completion of our visit.

Depending on how busy the border posts are with many tourists opting to go to the falls, it could take as little as 1h to cross or up to 3h. Once through the border posts it is a 45 minute drive through a National Park with little people (expect a crazy cyclist) or towns in sight.

The town Victoria Falls is still very colonial. It is very pretty, many big houses and green gardens and even for a Sunday it was bustling. There are many restaurants in the main road as well as two very well-known Hotels in the area.

We arrived at a market with many curios opposite the street from the entrance to Vic Falls. You are able to pay with ZAR, USD or Pula at Victoria Falls. There is a 3.1km route with 16 viewpoints alongside the falls which you can walk and explore. It is the dry season now so the water-levels in the Zambezi and in the falls was very low. On the Zambia side there was barely any water visible. It is still an amazing experience.

We had lunch at the restaurant within the falls area and headed back to Kasane early. There are many other activities you can do in the area. It was an extremely hot day and the slight breeze and spray from the Falls was great for cooling off even if only temporarily.
